Building a Back Bone: Mindfully
As human beings with eyes to see forward and minds to prepare ahead we are positioned to project forward into the future, making it difficult to remain in the now.
A focus on the breath and spine can give shape to life as it provides protection for healthy neural connectivity, connecting to the heart and vitality of life. It offers grateful flexibility to face the world, moving through fear and anger towards gentle self compassion and nurturance.
Mindful breath and posture is a choice we have available to us in each moment. There will be times that the breath is troubled and difficult. Sometimes the posture may be easier to express shame and failure rather than pride and confidence, but the beauty is in the choice with movement, connection and flow.
Mindful breath and posture cultivates trust and wisdom of our core’s strength and ability. We learn to find a balance within ourselves between challenge and honoring our limitations, uniquely.
Mini Exercise for Mindful BackBone Strength
The intention in this practice is to breath continuously with awareness to create space and vitality of life within your vertebrate.
Begin lying on your back with your spine as elongated as possible. Your legs and arms stretched as long as they will go. Rotate your shoulders so that you create space between your ears and your shoulders as your neck becomes lengthened. Feel your shoulder blades slide down your back and focus on your spine, creating space between each vertebrate. Imagine the souls of your feet moving towards the wall in front of you and the crown of your head moving towards the wall behind you, lengthen each breath as you send nourishment to your spine.
Continue this exercise for 15 minutes.
When you are ready stand up confidently and notice your posture and breath with complete awareness. Thank the wisdom of your mind and body, gratefully.
