Mini Mom & Child Meditation
Are you in due time for a moment of connection with you child or teenager.
Try this fun self-care exercise. It will be a way for you to spend quality time with your child, teach positive self-care practices, and get in a little something extra for yourself as well.
Begin with the Balloon Breath
Sit directly across from your child with criss cross legs. Each of you can place one hand on your heart and one hand on your tummy. Breath in pretending that you’re filling a balloon with air as you expand your lungs as full as they will go. Feel your hands rise when your belly fills completely with fresh and nourished air. Hold your breath for a few seconds at the top of the inhale when your heart can’t get any fuller.
Then exhale as your balloon like lungs completely deflate, compressing your tummy and listening to your heart.
Take at least 5 ballloon breaths.
Add a Mantra
A mantra is a word that you need to hear at any given moment. So, while you are doing your balloon breaths, add a mantra. Each of you can add an individualized mantra or you can together recite a mantra. It can be a word, a phrase, or a simple saying.
For example,
Saying, I am strong, or I am confident, or I am loved over and over again in your mind or out loud, as you focus on your breath.
Let your child choose their own mantra. It might be helpful if you offer some suggestions and let them know that they are welcome to make their own mantra.
